Abrasive Wheels

This is a half-day course designed to provide the course participants with the appropriate knowledgeof the hazards and dangers of working with Abrasive Wheels. It also provides the participants with the knowledge,skills and attitude to enable operative to use the abrasive wheel safely.It also provides an understanding of abrasive wheels instructing delegatesin all aspects of the correct mounting, setting and use of abrasive wheels.

  • Safety In Industry (Abrasive Wheels) RegulationsIdentify the hazards of working with Abrasive Wheels.
  • Evaluate the causes of abrasive wheel accidents
  • Define the method of selecting the correct wheel for the job.
  • Inspection and testing of the abrasive wheel.
  • Guarding of the grinding and cutting operations.
  • Dressing and truing the wheel.
  • Functions of the components, flanges, blotters etc.
  • Assembling and balancing components.

Fully compliant Abrasive wheels Training Certificate valid 3 years (subject to passing course assessment) and receipt issued after training course.

Courses are delivered by a NFQ Level 6 qualified
instructors.

Who Should Attend?

 

This abrasive wheels training course is legally required for all those who are involved in the purchase & selection, storage & handling, mounting, dressing and use of abrasive wheels. This includes either fixed (e.g. Bench grinders or polishers) or portable (e.g. angle grinders) abrasive wheels.

The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 (Section 2 covers competency and demands training for all such activities) and The Safety in Industry Act 1882 (Schedule No. 30 (Abrasive Wheels) places an obligation on all employers where Abrasive Wheels are in use, to ensure that only trained, competent and appointed personnel mount the appropriate wheels in the machines. This legislation was deemed necessary due to the serious injuries and fatalities resulting from the use of machines that were subjected to inappropriate use or incorrect mounting procedures.
